I’d Rather Cycle

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 13 June 2026.

This policy explains what happens to your data when you visit I’d Rather Cycle (idrathercycle.org). We have tried to keep it plain. If anything is unclear, email us and we will explain.

Who we are

I’d Rather Cycle is an independent cycling website run by Raffaele Nocera. For any question about this policy or your data, the contact point is [email protected]. For the purposes of UK data protection law, that is the contact for the person responsible for your data on this site.

What we collect

You do not need an account to read anything here, and we do not ask you to register or hand over personal details to use the site or its calculators — the calculators run entirely in your browser and send us nothing.

We collect data in only two ways:

  • If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use it only to reply. We do not add you to any list or share it with anyone.
  • Server logs. Like almost every website, our host and our content-delivery network automatically record technical information — your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time — to keep the site running and secure. These logs are rotated and deleted automatically.

Analytics

We measure how many people visit and which pages are read using Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is privacy-friendly by design: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint you, and does not track you across other websites. The figures we see are aggregate and do not identify you.

Cookies

Because our analytics is cookieless, the only cookie this site sets today is a small one that remembers your choice in the cookie banner, so we do not ask you again on every page. Full detail is in our cookie policy.

The site does not currently show adverts or contain affiliate links. If that changes — for example if we add display advertising such as Google AdSense, or affiliate links to bike shops — we will update this policy first, label affiliate links clearly, and use the cookie banner to ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set.

Hosting and infrastructure

The site is hosted by Hostinger and delivered through Cloudflare, which provides our content-delivery network and security. Both process the technical log data described above on our behalf. Because Cloudflare operates a global network, some of this data may be processed outside the UK, under the safeguards required by UK data protection law.

We rely on our legitimate interests in running a secure, working website and understanding its traffic in aggregate (for the server logs and cookieless analytics), and on your consent for any non-essential cookies we may introduce in future. Where you have emailed us, we use your message to respond to you.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask us for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. As we hold very little — essentially only emails you have sent us — most requests are simple. To exercise any of these, email [email protected].

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the UK’s regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data — most likely when advertising or affiliate links are added — we will update this page and change the date at the top.
